I’ve been a teacher for over 30 years and have taught every age from preschool through adult education. While I have loved them all, there has always been something special about teaching preschoolers for me. Their minds are wide open, they are infinitely curious, always interesting, and a lot of fun to be around.
I’ve been a student of foreign languages my whole life, learning French, Spanish and Hebrew along the way, along with my newest addition, Chinese! These linguistic adventures have added to my life in so many ways, including allowing me to make real and deep friendships with people around the world. My life has been enriched because of my love of learning languages. I hope to pass on my love of languages to the next generation through my foreign language activity boxes, modeled after the methods I perfected over years in the classroom.
Wee Play Language was founded because I wanted to find a way to combine two of my favorite things, teaching preschoolers and learning foreign languages.
Creating Wee Play Language was both a labor of love and a practical, methodical study of what worked best and was the most engaging for preschoolers. From the beginning there was no compromise on quality or philosophy. I experimented for several years, with individual students and in class settings, getting the formula just right and the result was The Wee Play Language method and philosophy of teaching foreign languages to preschoolers.
For years we were, and continue to be, a favorite specialist in over 100 schools along the East Coast. We have had parents rearrange their children’s schedules to be there on the day we came to their school. Children have refused to leave until the class was over; the examples and testimonials about this are endless. We can see how beloved our program is just by the children’s reactions when we come into their classroom. They are always so excited to see the day’s theme and can’t wait to play with exciting and fun materials. The results are magical. The children retain so much of the language each week, allowing us to build their skills throughout the year.
From the beginning we have believed in a natural immersion approach. This is considered the gold standard for early language education. That is where our philosophy and methods begin, but not where they end. We have expanded on this idea and the results are indisputable. There is no need for translation or rote exercises in order to memorize vocabulary…with Wee Play Language, the language is internalized from the very beginning, the children learn effortlessly through active and engaging play with relevant and interesting materials. They’re having fun and doing what comes naturally to them…the only difference is they’re doing it in a foreign language. It’s truly magical to watch!
